Took a while to prepare the little warrior but after sunset on Friday evening it was done. Took off to Lake Vänern on Saturday morning and went out from Spiken harbour.
Decreasing wind made it comfortable rest of the day. Had a half day fishing and had 15 contacts, 10 of them in the boat and 2 with us back home.
Fish bit on bait heads with chrome, bluegreen and pink. Best was the gold green Vuoksiraksi with 30 g. lead. Only 4-4.5 degrees C in the water. According to the vhf people had good fishing at Hinden. With warmer water it's going to get better around the Kållandsö water.
Mate of the day was a collegue from work.
A windy day, but between the gusts some fisk decided to bit on whitefish equiped with baitheads. I almost had an Vättern triple x 2, but didn't catch the remaining trout. Also threw back the trout i caught. It was a 2,5kg, very good looking trout and with the hook coming loose out of his mouth the choise was easy,- back it went. I released four fish this day. Brought home a salmon weighing 7 kg, char 3 kg and one more char 55cm long. Not to many out on the lake today, though, i and Bo Pedersen, team tortuga, caught several nice fishes. He and Ivan from Denmark caught a nio kg. heavy salmon among some other smaller salmon and mainly char. Looking forward to fishing lake Wettern again.
Out of Husqvarna harbour. Everything worked fine. Even had a couple of bites on my baitfish. One of them went home with me: a trout 60 cm long, in good condition. Fine day. 5-5,7 c in the water.

Jussihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12648330414550427257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4823306497853641549.post-55755634338803330952015-02-14T00:33:00.002+01:002015-02-14T00:34:51.184+01:00Lake Wettern in February.I had my friend, Sven Hille fishing with me on wednesday. We fished out of Hästholmen.
It was a little bit windy during midday, but we managed to get some fish bitting on our baits. Smaller fish kept us busy in the morning hours. At that time we fished close to land but a change in our plans made us leave the place for another spot and it was wortwhile since we started to catch several bigger salmon.
3.30 pm we had five salmon and one char in the boat. Salmons weighed between 5.5 and 3,3kg.
They bit on flies, minnows, natural baits with holders from Vuoksiraksi, Salsa, Anchovy special. Also flashers and action discs worked fine.
It was a good day to show Sven the fishing on Sweden's second biggest lake.
It was a good day to show how well the Warrior works on Lake Wettern.
The wind wasn't too bad, but waves got high in the gusts and as usual they were at the highest when the fish was on the move and we more or less fought fish for 45 minutes in a row, i think it was. Sven also owns a Warrior so we had some experiences to share.
I have also updated my Warrior with one more GPS-antenna. Now it has double security.
Next trip to Lake Wettern will be after Vasaloppet. I'm participating in that competition and need to practise a little more.
Very good fishing in the smallest of lakes. Only possible way to get there is by foot and the effort is mostly worth while. Smallest fishes are let back and some of the biggest walks home with us to the smoker and fryingpan. Pick a lake on the map, get there with light tackle, have a go on the wildest of fish. Some old boats are left and forgotten. Some are still in good condition and floats well. Good use for exploring small forgotten waters.

The warrior was launched in the lake on the west side of the lake. Fishing was good! Had fish on dodger, flasher and flies. Some new people went with me on these trips and they had a good time. Maybe they'll join me in december. Conditions may be a little bit different but just as fun.
Time to take a brake now. Back in august. Little warrior goes to a rest.
Caught three char and one salmon there yesterday. The salmon and one char was released. Incredibly hot on the lake, but still one char bit on a shallowly fished fly! Rest took baitfish behind flashers and dodgers. Fished out of Hjo.

Conditions for fishing seemed to be ok for saturday. We took ourselves together and gathered our gear for a salmontrip to northern Lake Wättern. On the location in Karslborg harbour we saw none of the fine conditions we had hoped to see there. Instead we had rain, wind and not one single fisher in the harbor. NOT good!

Didn't we check weather forecast for this day?

Hard wind and the rain were far from best possible weather for salmon fishing, but we made it out to our spots just outside of Karlsborg. We didn't one single bite on our baitfishes there so we followed the wind to Granvik. Went over a number of fine spots for salmon but nothing happened before being just outside of Granvik, where we had four fishes landed in a short period of time.
Two chars took baitfish fished with control in Vuoksiraksi baitheads. Both took shallow. Another char took on downrigger and flasher and finally a really fine salmon bit on a baitfish witch had aid from an actiondisc to get the proper swim. Also on the down rigger. Two hours later a fat, small trout took a shallow fished baitfish. Two cm. too small to visit the frying pan, it was released.

A fine fishing day, but the price we paid for it was considerable: more or less everything was wet after the day. Clothes are still drying! We have our Ursuite MPS and that is some really good gear to use always on open water.

Everything worked really well on the boat, she didn't miss a beat.

Bert got his salmon for the x-mastable and was of course pleased with that. But, this day we could have fished it from from the shore, casting tubeflies from the rocks is more popular then ever and very effective when targeting for salmon feeding close to land.

But we are addicted to open water, the feeling of open landscape and horizon is fantastic regardless of the time of the year. So, even though the boat could have been sold for a small amount of money on that saturday afternoon, I might keep her and continue doing this for a while longer.

Easy choose for fishing this time of the year; Lake Vättern, northern part is the place where to go at this time of the year.
I made a trip up there and brought with me mothers cousin. He wanted some boost to his X-mastable and that was a good reason to bring him with me.
Fishing was good out of Granvik. On friday we caught two salmon between 70-65cm. Not he biggest of salmons. On saturday we got 3 salmons, 2 trouts and one char.
There were a lot of fish in the area so fishing was easy. Little bit to easy, though i tested some new colors on the Vuoksiraksi bait heads and some new flies. They worked well, so to say.
I'm waiting a couple of weeks, then I'm going up there again. Engine needs to be maintained.
Keep the gear in good shape, folks. Fishing in these conditions is dangerous and demand good seamanship. Better with no salmon at christmas than no fisherman for the rest of the family to celebrate it with. Think twice, and take care.

Vuoksiraksi baitheads rocks.
I'm having a go with them on Lake Vättern and Sven Hille, Rostock, Germany uses them on Baltics with good result. The picture shows his latest catch, a nice salmon from south Baltic sea.
Had good help from Tommy "abris" who assisted me during the day. We got a handful of fish, trouts and char. They were in fine condition, but a couple of months of more feeding won't hurt. Fish bit on baitfish behind flashers and actiondisc, at 30 and 40 foot.

The char on the photo was released after the photosession. The trout on the photo was a good one, weighing in at 3.1kg. Not a giant, but in good shape and it gave Tommy a battle.
We spent 12 hours on the lake looking around for fishy spots to fish at later this spring and summer.
The two photos below are from a later session; one of my old students came fishing with me. We had good fishing north of Hjo. How about three char and three trouts!
The pic below is from a fishing close to midsummer. Got some nice fish then too.
Took with me some collegues from school since
They wanted to se how this type of fishing is done and perhaps they also wanted to catch one fish or two. During the day the they sas ut all. All weather that is availebla except snow and a nice
trout that bit on a baitfish behind a flasher. The Boat worked really good and i think i gave my collegues an fine experience,
Week 19 would have been a better choice for a larger number of landed fish on our boat. We still had a good week. Even though we didn't catch any bigger than 11,5 kg we had a chance on the big ones. One 21kg was caught out of Ronneby so the big ones were around. We got 5 days of fishing during the week so we had our chances to get wh at we looked for. Meanwhile searching the bigger salmon we had 7 fish taken up. They weighed between 7 and 11,5kg. We also had a number of undersized salmons added to our catch. None garfish, due to the cold water. 3,5 degrees is not garfishes favorite temperature.
Maybe we'll give Hasslö a go the coming weekend. We'll see.
Now it's going to be interesting to see what Havs & Vatten Myndigheten will decide concerning the salmons in the Baltic sea. There is most likely new regulations coming. Hopefully rules restricting number of fish landed, ie baglimits and amount of rods on the boat. 15-20 rods on a sportsfisherboat just doesn't look good!

It would be nice to catch fish as shown bellow by fellow fisherman and us, also in the future.
On saturday i took off 4.30 in the morning and headed for Lake Vänern. Out on the water 8.00 trying to get some kind of rusty plan to work, trying to find fish in the water between Klas and Pålgrund, west of Kållandsö. Had some points given to me by Finnish friends, but thought i give some "old hot spots" a chance before getting.
The water was cold, very cold. None fish thought of biting my lures before i entered warmer water north of Pålgrund. This spot wasn't far away from the point i was by my friends. Still, the area was quite big, so i went thru there five or six times and had fish biting every time.
I had a good day Fishing and everything went well.
Weather was great and i had two fishes with me back home. One salmon and one trout. Not sure of the weight but length was 67 and just under 80cm on the salmon. Two more undersized trouts and some strikes was what i managed to get that day. Fish took on baitfish with Vuoksiraksi and Salsa baitheads. Also flasher was useful today and in one occasion also actiondisc worked well. Fish took mainly in the surface, 15-40g. weights.
When boating in Kållandsö area: Look out for the poles that mark the routes. Ice have moved several of them or they are simply missing. It's not a good time to take the boat and engine to the doctor when the fishing is better then ever. Have a shitty fishing :-)

Thought it could be about time to update this blog with a smoking fresh video cut by Bert. I'ts a summary from last years fishing from Blekinge, South Baltic sea.

We had some really good fishing with just about everything we wanted, good size and fair amount of salmons we had contact with. No really big salmon hit our hooks but we had some 13-14kg as biggest and a very fine average size on the rest, some 11 kg, i think it was. Half all our caught salmon were released. We used only singlehooks on our spoons and off course the rubberized net, for gentle landing.

Last summer i burned some fuses getting involved in discussions with authorities regarding the politics in salmonfishing in the Baltics sea. I wrote many, many mails to Hav & vatten myndigheten and got more confused the more i learned about the system and politics in fishing in the sea and the rivers. When summer ended i was fed up, i have to say. The mess created by lobbyists, gready people and stupid politics is not to be fixed by a few angry sportsfisherman, that's for sure. There are several forums to join on Facebook, for an example Save the baltic salmon, since many angry and dissapointed fisherman jell a hell of a lot louder, that will make a difference.

I have done other things during my stay away from fishing. Upgraded my drivers licence, sharpened my skills in horse driving and so on. But fishing is up again. At last :-)

Enjoy Berts fine clip, but be beware of swearwords. Big salmon and fine weather may forgive some of the bad language! I'll improve this year <"((((><

Click for full screen and go for the HD definition. The light out on the sea is great for films and photos!
Good weather with enough of everything, fine balance with some rainy days, but mostly overcast. I had a nice flow in most of my projects; getting firewood for a long time, restoring buildings, training and at last i did lots of fishing. Mostly we caught perch, pikes and some smaller trouts. So my intake of protein this summer was based on fish...Some sausages went down too.
We fished out of Hjo on thursday last week. The boat was in water from early afternoon till sunset and in those few hours we had a fair number of char in the boat. We kept some for the midsummer feast and the rest of the fish was released outside of the boat, as usual.
Fish took on baitfish behind dodger and flasher, baitfish behind actiondisc, on flies, both in in surface, 50g lead and on downrigger between 40-80 feet. No fuzz, simple fishing. Go for 25-35m deep water, east of the harbour and there's lot of baitfish and all the other ones that gives a nice go on the rods.
Watertemp. is not mixed up, so it's easy to find spots that held fish.
I had Stefan with me on this little trip on thursday. The fish in his hands is one of the ones we kept for the grill.

Have a jolly fine fishing everybody all around the sweet lakes we have to take care of.
I have been writing back and forward to Havochvatten.se about the salmonfishing in the Baltic sea.
The new regulations almost went thru; due to them, if we caught a salmon with adiposefin left (wild salmon) we should have thrown it back in the sea, dead or alive.
Now, there is only 40% of planted salmon in the Baltic sea that has their adipose fin cut off, since Sweden is the only country of them around the Baltic sea that do this. So, it's hard to know if it's a wild salmon on the hook or planted, so therefor the new regulations were put on ice.
I was looking forward to new regulations, a plan to save and look after the population of wild salmon in the Baltic sea. Giving us something to follow we could have said also the regulations in the northern part of the sea must be looked over, all in mind to save the wild salmon.
Now the rivermouth of Torne älv is blocked by nets. Swedes blocked it june 19 and Finns will do it june 25. Opens up on september 15.
Up the river you'll find teams, approx. 50 of them that fish with nets and something called kullenät. These teams are not fishing for their living. They reported they caught 3094 kg. salmon last year with their nets. That is 300 salmon if averageweight is 10kg...That is clearly false numbers. I'm working on to prove it, so i leave it for now.
A have all the numbers of caught fish in the Torneriver, (numbers reported).
I must say it's gives a strange feeling when looking at all these numbers and at the same time look at the new regulations that almost went thru for us fishing with boats, rod and reel in the sea.
Due to new regulations I should have thrown back wild fish, maybe dead, in the sea when they haul up wild fish in nets in the pearl of wild, untouched rivers in northern europe, Torne river.
It's nuts!
I recommend you to read the regulations on the Finnish-Swedish boarder commission homepage .
Click on the banner in Swedish and then http://regeringen.se/content/1/c6/14/50/40/b597d13f.pdf
There is some 90 pages, but you'll soon find the interesting parts.
Now, when you have read it; contact Havochvatten.se by sending them a question to http://www.havochvatten.se/om-oss/kontakta-oss/skicka-flaskpost-till-hav.html how they will deal with our fishing contra the fishing they have in the rivers up north with nets.
The more of us that send mail to them, the sooner they have to start dealing with it. Show intrest!
Ask them simply how they can have rules and regulations from year 1800 in the rivers, when sportfisherman are put to regulations 2012 with the meaning of saving wild salmon.
Do a good job and have a nice summer.
I'm off to Lappland tomorrow. Back in august :-)
A well known spot for big salmon this time of the year. The hunt after the +20kg goes on since this year we didn't get it.
But we tried, the god of fishes, should know. We had four full days of fishing, two half days and one day none fishing at all due to hard wind. We managed to catch 12 salmon during those days.
Nine of them weighed more than ten kg. and that is a decent average, i think. The heaviest fishes were 12-13kg. Maybe not impressing, comparing how many salmons they catch out of Simrishamn and Ystad at the moment. But we go for the big ones and then, let it be, we catch less fish, but have chance on really big ones. This year we released more then half of the salmon we caught. Fish in good condition we simply put back. Even though we must praktis this more. To get the fish back in the water as soon as possible. Getting back later about this issue.
Team Lürsta did what every salmon fisher aims for. They caught a really nice fish april 28. Their salmon weighed in at 19.80kg! Very good looking fish in the best condition. Well done, and congratulations! Our fishing was filmed by Berts camera and the two and 1/2 hour of constant screaming reels and fighting salmons will be cut down to a film, about ten minutes long. New technique makes it possible to tag and save only the fights even if the camera is filming all day long. Very good. Here are some photos from our fishing last week.
The salmon on the photo weighs 14 kg and was caught on saturday after only five minutes of trolling. During the day they had two more salmons caught. The weighed in at eight and ten kg, so the the day was successful, no doubt.
During the sixth Rugen Trollingmeeting, Raik Sklarski, Rostock, caught a 123cm long, 21,64kg heavy salmon by using a longline 150 behind the boat. Congratulations to a really nice catch. The spoon used was mentioned but somehow i forgot the make and colour after i ordered the last 3 available in shops in Sweden. The receipt is eaten by my cat so no way to get hold to this info. If the have some nice salmons on them, i'll write about them here. Grizzlys, NK, Ismo and Silver streaks will do fine too. Hopefully. Anyway, thanks for the info, Sven.
They have good salmonfishing there right now and from what Sven Hille writes he confirms the good fishing in his reports. Fishes weighing 10 kilos are common and some fisherman made their luck by catching +20kg. salmons. Sven wrote about a salmon weighing 24 kilos and that promises good for fisherman going for the megasize salmon in our waters in a few weeks time. The one who fish, will see.
Salmon on the picture weighs 15kg and was caught on quality fishgear from Finland. Vk2 flasher works fine with plastic baits also. Hat off for the fellow fisherman. Congratulations to a nice catch. We had a really good day since we caught four salmon before noon. We thought we had enough so we left the place and went home. The fishes weighed between 9.5
and 11.5 kg. All fish were caught on the same location. A little sweet spot middle of the ocean.
Filmtime! We have cut our clips from fishing in Blekinge, 2011 into the first film out of three.
The films have been done late! Almost time to get ready for a new fishingseason in south Baltics. This first clip has a lot of noise disturbance from the wind. We later covered the microphone with a soft foam and it made it better in the coming films. Lot of screaming reels in the films, so we didn't want to cover the noise with music for an example.
So here they are; an apetizer for everyone who's going fishing there.
I brought my mother and some relatives there for celebrating her birthday. The place is nice and quiet and also a perfect spot to have as a base for fishing out of Omberg area. I went fishing a couple of days trying to hook one or two salmons since it's to be good fishing around there now.

Friday was a windy day. Some 8-9 m/s northwest with gusts reaching 10-12. On the eastern side of the lake it can be tough fishing, but in my Warrior we had no problems managing the waves or the wind. We used five rods and hooked a double Lake Wättern triple. Two salmon 68 and 75cm, two char 60 and 65cm, two trouts, one legal size and the other under size. But still, - a Lake Wättern triple is a really nice catch.

On saturday there were King Winter Salmon i the area. A fishing competition all over the fishy spots! Some boats came really close to us, obviously not having a clue about the rules to be followed so we don't mess up our boats and gear in a hellball.

Well, well, i tried another spot instead. We caught ours salmons day before so there were no rush after them. It looked really good some time during early afternoon and then it started to snow. That was it, fishingday was over for this time. And it seems as Bay of Motala will have a rest for some time since there is thick ice at the boat ramp now.

Before the snow started to fall we caught a 60cm char and had a nice strike on another rod. The planer backed and lifted a meter up i the air, so there were a nice trout or salmon on there for a while but it went loose. Both days a flie caught most fish. Home made apex took one fine char and a baitfish behind a flasher had a couple of strikes too.

Pics taken of Markku from Norway.
